DraftKings Live Coverage Assignment
My main objective was to build a direct link between DraftKings DFS contests to live events while creating
content aimed to generate engagement with the DK Community. To make this happen, I located Showdown
contests taking place for Game 1 of both the Stanley Cup (June 3) and the NBA Finals (June 4).
From there, I built a content strategy to achieve the following:
1. Promote the contest
2. Generate excitement and engagement for the contest and the game
3. Generate excitement and engagement during the game, acting like a hype man for both DK and
contest participants.
4. Celebrate winning
I understand part of this strategy would not be a duty of the live coverage team but I felt it was worth
simulating to help immerse myself in the experience, in addition to entering a contest, which I know
wouldn’t be possible as an employee. I understand there may be reasons for this, but it seems contest
promotion is light on the @DraftKings account so I felt that was a nice way to pursue the assignment.
Without further ado, here’s the meat and potatoes of the simulation. I have summarized the NHL portion of
the coverage below. I deployed a similar strategy for Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
